New York Newly undisputed 126-pound champion Amanda Serrano and fellow Irish 135-pounder Katie Taylor will have their highly-anticipated rematch on May 20 in Ireland.

The announcement came after Serrano completed a unanimous decision win over Mexico’s Erica Cruz to become the first Puerto Rican female boxer to win a world title.

An exhausted Serrano stood in front of Taylor in the center of the ring – both wearing their monarch belts – at Madison Square Garden’s Hulu Theater to begin promotion for the second installment.

Before the announcement, Serrano predicted that “there will be a bigger and better fight.”

For her part, Taylor said she was rooting for her next opponent because she wanted to give the Puerto Rican a rematch.

“I wanted this fight. The undisputed champion against the undisputed. The last fight was an epic fight and I think the next one will be exactly the same,” said the Irishman.

“It will be great to fight in Ireland against Amanda Serrano. It’s unbelievable and the last fight was epic, so I expect nothing less from the next one,” added the 135-pound champion.

Taylor won a split decision when they first met on April 30 last year, both making history as the first women to headline a card at Madison Square Garden.

ESPN named the bout the “Fight of the Year” in women’s boxing, as well as the “Moment of the Year.”
