New York If until tonight Puerto Rican Amanda Serrano had a place in boxing history, this Saturday she took her legend one step further by becoming the first Puerto Rican female boxer to become a single division champion, defeating Mexico’s Erika Cruz in a billboard that was both filmed in the theater Hulu, Madison Square Garden.

The Puerto Rican’s win came via unanimous decision in a bloody fight due to the Aztec’s head injury after a headbutt early in the main event. The judges saw an interesting claim and the scores were 98-92, 98-92 and 97-93.

As such, Serrano holds the International Boxing Federation (IBF), World Boxing Organization (WBO), World Boxing Council (WBC) and International Boxing Organization (OIB) featherweight (126 pounds) belts. World Boxing Association (WBA), which Cruz held.

It was a dream night for the Puerto Rican woman who brought women’s boxing to the fore. She will now prepare for a much-anticipated rematch against the Irishwoman’s four 135lb belts against Katie Taylor, who won an upset split decision in their first meeting on April 30 last year.

The rematch will take place on May 20 in Dublin, Ireland.
